Abstract
922,351. Welding by pressure. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. June 2, 1960 [June 5, 1959], No. 19551/60. Class 83 (4). A device for holding a stud, bolt &c. 7 for welding to a workpiece, comprises two parts 1, 2, each having a jaw 1d, 2d, for holding and supplying current to the stud &c., the parts being capable of relative movement at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the holder and one part being provided with a longitudinally adjustable abutment pin 10 to co-operate with the end of the stud &c. remote from the welding end 7a and being pivoted so that pressure exerted on the pin by the stud &c. urges the jaws together. The part 1 has two ears 1b 1c between which fits the parts 2 pivoted at 3. The part 1 has a conical end 1a at one end for connection to a current supply member and chromium-copper or tungsten-copper jaw 1d at the other. The part 2 has a similar jaw 2d and carries in a tapped bore 9 an adjustable pin 10 lockable by a screw 11. The end of the member 7 remote from the welding end 7a to be resistance welded to member 4 is pressed against the head 10a of the pin 10 to exert a torque about the pin 3, clamping the jaws on the member 7. The jaws are also urged together by a leaf spring 14 between the members 1, 2.
