830,281. Loud-speakers. BROWNSCOMBE, P. J. June 21, 1957, No. 19654/57. Class 40 (4). The stiffness of the air in a loud-speaker cabinet and the stiffness of the diaphragm support are compensated for by a negative stiffness unit. The centre of the diaphragm is connected to a spring-pressed toggle 21 so that any movement of the diaphragm from its mean position causes the toggle to exert a force on the diaphragm proportional to the displacement and in the same direction. Movement of the diaphragm is limited by stops 31, 32. In the event of the pressure inside the casing A varying markedly from atmospheric a switch 41 or 42 is closed to drive an electric pump 33 or 34 to restore the pressure to normal. Minor modifications are described.
