Abstract
The invention comprises the hexahydrobenzoate of 19-nor-testosterone and the preparation thereof by condensing in the presence of a condensation agent a hexahydrobenzoyl halide, hexahydrobenzoic acid or hexahydrobenzoic acid anhydride with 19-nor-testosterone, the condensation being effected in solution. The condensation agent may be a substance capable of taking up hydrogen halide, e.g. a tertiary organic base such as pyridine, particularly when a hexahydrobenzoyl halide is used in the condensation. A suitable reaction temperature is in the range of from 10 DEG to 35 DEG C. The above process may be modified in that a known intermediate compound occurring in the production of 19-nor-testosterone, said intermediate having a free hydroxy group in the 17-position, is hexahydrobenzoylated by condensation with a hexahydrobenzoyl halide, hexahydrobenzoic acid or its anhydride, and the resulting 17-hexahydrobenzoylated derivative is converted to the hexahydrobenzoate of 19-nor-testosterone by known methods. One detailed example is given.
