Abstract

827,659. Supply and delivery arrangements for hot water storage tanks. PARAMATIC DEVELOPMENT Ltd. July 25. 1957 [April 26, 1956; Nov. 20, 1956], Nos. 12767/56 and 35383/56. Class 64(1) [Also in Group XXIX] When a valve member 23 is in the position indicated in Fig. 2 (which shows the valve casing 20 with a cover removed) cold water from a supply pipe 28, Fig. 1. enters through a rear inlet, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), and through a passage 30 of keyhole section, into a valve chamber formed by the valve cover, then passes to a delivery pipe 38, e.g. over a wash basin or sink. The valve casing 20 is secured to the bottom of a storage tank 10 in which water is heated, and when a lever 25 is moved to turn clockwise a spindle 24 and the valve 23 mounted on it, the passage 30 is closed so that the cold water then passes up a passage 31 into a pipe 32 in the tank and down through a surrounding pipe 33 to an opening 34 into the tank. This displaces hot water into an open-topped pipe 35 which passes it to passages 36, 37 in the casing 20 and, since the passage 37 is opened by the rotation of the valve 23, the hot water passes to the valve chamber and delivery pipe 38. At intermediate positions of the valve 23 the passages 30, 37 are both partly open and mixed hot and cold water is delivered. No reference is made to complete shutting-off of the water. Closure of the passage 37 obviates dripping when the tank water expands, while openings at the top of the inlet pipe 32, the height of the outlet pipe 35 and the positioning of the passage 30 above the delivery pipe 38 ensure against back-siphoning if the supply pressure falls.
