Abstract

Aluminium alloys which can be etched (see Group XVI) to produce a smooth, substantially nodule-free surface are:-(1) 0.5-1.2% Si, 1% Fe, 3.9-5% Cu, 0.4-1.2% Mn, 0.2-0.8% Mg, 0.1% Cr, 0.25% Zn, 0.15% Ti, remainder Al. (2) 0.8% Si, 1% Fe,3.5-4.5% Cu, 0.4-1% Mn, 0.2-0.8% Mg, 0.1% Cr, 0.25% Zn, remainder Al. (3) 0.5% Si, 0.5% Fe, 3.8-4.9% Cu, 0.3-0.9% Mn, 1.2-1.8% Mg, 0.1% Cr, 0.25% Zn, remainder Al. (4) 0.4-0.8% Si, 0.7% Fe, 0.15-0.4% Cu, 0.15% Mn, 0.8-1.2% Mg, 0.15-0.35% Cr, 0.25% Zn, 0.15% Ti, remainder Al. (5) 0.5% Si, 0.7% Fe, 1.2-2% Cu, 0.3% Mn, 2.1-2.9% Mg, 0.18-0.4% Cr, 5.1-6.1% Zn, 0.2% Ti, remainder Al.
