[Also in Group XXX] The moisture content of material, e.g. tobacco, in a duct 1 is determined by means of electrodes 4 mounted in a part 3 of the duct which part is always filled with the material under test irrespective of the level of material in the main duct. The capacity between the plates is a measure of the moisture content of the material and is substantially independent of the level of material provided the V-shaped portion is filled. The duct is inclined as shown at Fig. 3 so that the material passes through it under gravity. The angle of the duct is adjustable by screw 10 and the supply is brought to and taken from the duct by conveyers 5, 7. The moisture indication may be corrected for temperature by a device situated in the duct upstream of the plates 4.
