Abstract

797,752. Measuring resistance of liquids. CROCKATT & SONS, Ltd., W., and CROCKATT, W. C. April 4, 1955 [March 31, 1954], No. 9396/54. Class 37. Apparatus for estimating the impurity content of liquids by measuring the electrical conductivity of the test liquid comprises a temperature compensating resistance or resistance combination, at least one resistance being of a negative temperature co-efficient shunted across the measuring instrument. The apparatus shown comprises a liquid pipe line 42 having a pocket 41 incorporating an electrode cell in series with a power source 40 and a meter 45, and a pocket 43 in which is placed the temperature compensating unit 44 also connected with the meter 45. This unit 44 may be connected in shunt with the meter and may comprise a single resistance having a negative temperature co-efficient which is substantially the reciprocal of the conductivity temperature co-efficient of the liquid : or a combination of resistances including at least one resistance having a negative temperature co-efficient arranged to give the requisite correction.
