Abstract

792,001. Electric tests. LIME-SAND MORTAR, Ltd. Jan. 18, 1956 [Jan. 24, 1955], No. 2049/55. Class 37. The moisture content of sand in a container is determined by pairs of electrodes 1, 1; 2, 2 immersed in the sand at different levels and connected to a D.C. supply developed by transformer 8, rectifier 10 and smoothing condenser 11. Ganged switches 15 connect one pair of electrodes or the other in series with the supply and with one of a pair of micro-ammeters 12, 13, which may be selected by ganged switches 16 and which are differently shunted to provide different measuring ranges. Fig. 3 shows the electrodes which comprise sheathed rods carrying bared end conducting plates mounted in the sand compartment of a hopper 17 which is divided into a number of compartments by radial divisions. The micro-ammeters' switches and power pack may all be mounted in a single unit.
