Abstract

955,157. Determining moisture content. NATIONAL SMELTING CO. Ltd. Feb. 22, 1962 [Jan. 24, 1961], No.2795/61. Heading GIN. An arrangement for determining the moisture content of a conveyed granular material comprises a pair of electrodes 1, Fig. 3, insulated at one end 9, clamped to an insulating block , and supported by a pivot 5 in such a position that the electrodes ride on the surface of the conveyed material. The voltage developed across a resistor R1, Fig.5, in series with the electrode gap RE is compared with the voltage on the top of a self balancing potentiometer R5 the setting of which indicates the moisture content. A time constant circuit introduces delay whereby the indication of short term fluctuations due for example to lumpy material is avoided. The output may be recorded or be used for control purposes. Application to water cooled sinter is referred to and pivot constructional details are included.
