Abstract

826,020. Drying, heating and cooling pulverulant materials. RUHRCHEMIE A. G. Feb. 17, 1956 [March 19, 1955], No. 4962/56. Classes 34(2) and 64(2) Pulverulant material is heated or cooled by entrainment in a current of gas which flows through a tube in a helical path induced by vanes attached to a member extending through the tube. Fig. 1 shows a drying apparatus in which the material from a hopper 11 is entrained by a stream of gas issuing from a pipe 13 having a heater 14 and flowing up through a steamjacketed tube having an inner rotary tube 22 carrying vanes 23 and also heated if desired. The material is separated from the gas in a cyclone 20. In a modification, the stream of gas with entrained material flows down through a tube 4, Fig. 2, having an inner tube 5 carrying vanes 6. The material is separated from the gas in a tube 8 and falls into a receiver 10, while the gas flows up through the tube 5. Separation of the finer particles is facilitated by a guide member 9 which increases the rotation of the gas stream.
