Abstract
825,899. Spark apparatus. ERICSSON TELEPHONES Ltd. Aug. 15, 1958 [Sept. 17, 1957], No. 29304/57. Class 39(1). An enclosed spark gap comprises an envelope containing a reducing or inert gas and having two tubular electrodes sealed through the wall thereof, the inner end of each electrode being domed to form a discharge surface and the discharge surfaces being spaced apart to form a spark gap. In the manufacture of the spark gap shown two glass collars 15 are sealed on to two tubular electrodes 11 and 12 of an iron alloy, a. glass sleeve is then fused to the two collars to form the envelope 10. The envelope is exhausted through an aperture 16 in the wall of electrode 11 by means of a pump attached to a length of glass tubing 24 which is fused to electrode 11, and is then filled with hydrogen at a pressure of 500 mm. of mercury and the tubing 24 closed to form a seal 17. An auxiliary electrode 18 of iron alloy wire surrounded by a ceramic sleeve 20 is shown projecting through an aperture in the domed end of electrode 12, but may be omitted, in which case no aperture is provided.
