Abstract

825,576. Hook fastenings; attaching hooks. WALKER Ltd., T. Nov. 11, 1957 [Nov. 9, 1956], No. 34256/56 Classes 43 and 89(3) A U-shaped hook 1 has a flat base part 4 with slots 5 to receive attachment prongs 6 carried by a back plate 7, the slots being situated beneath an overlapping hook tongue 3. Two slots 8 are provided in the hook tongue aligned with the slots 5 for the passage of clenching limbs 13 of a press. The press comprises a punch member 9 with a shank 10 moving in a socket 11 in the lower end of a vertically movable plunger 12 which carries a sliding carrier member 17 having a slot for a set screw 15 and a foot 18 for supporting a hook. The foot has apertures 19 for the passage of the limbs 13 at the lower end of the punch. In operation the punch descends and the base part 4 contacts the material pressing it down so that the prongs 6 of the back plate pass. through the material, the punch then descends relatively to the carrier 17 against the action of springs 25 and the clenching limbs 13 pass through the slots 8 in the hook tongue and bend the prongs 6 on to the base part. Locating apertures 24 may be provided in the back plate.
