Abstract
989,137. Attaching pronged fasteners. THOMAS WALKER Ltd. March 31, 1964 [April 6, 1963], No. 13792/63. Heading B4C. A press for attaching pronged fasteners to flexible material such as the fabric of a garment waistband, comprises a base 1 having a frame 2 supporting a head portion 3, two work-holders 23 adapted to hold different fastening devices and mounted on a pivoted bar 7 which may be turned so that the prongs of one fastener are directed downwardly while the other fastener is held in an inoperative position, and two anvils 5, 6 mounted on the base for co-operation with their respective work holders. The work holders are held on the bar 12 by means of screws 23<SP>1</SP> adjustably located in slots 25, the bar being retained in either of its two positions by means of leaf springs 17; a handle 16 is provided for turning the bar. The anvils 5, 6 are mounted on a plate 4 which is lifted by means of a foot-treadle mechanism so that the anvils are forced into contact with the tool holders; gauge stops 26 are adjustably mounted on the plate. In a modification, instead of the anvils being on a movable bed, they may be on a fixed bed, and the carrier bar mounted on a vertically-movable head in the form of a plunger or slide.
