Abstract

827,457. Riveting. WALKER Ltd., T. Nov. 21, 1957 [Jan. 3, 1957], No. 259/57. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group VII] A clenching press comprises a base or bed supporting an upstanding frame member having a forwardly - extending overhanging part adapted to carry an upper work-holding tool or die, and a vertically movable lower member or die slidably mounted in said base beneath the upper tool, said vertically-movable lower member being in operative engagement with the short arm of an operating lever pivotally mounted on the base adjacent the front edge thereof, said lever having a relatively long depending pendulum arm adapted for operation by a foot. The top tool carried by the frame 2 comprises a stationary work-holder 3 for a rivet, eyelet or staple. Beneath the top tool is a table 6 provided with an anvil recess 8, said table being vertically reciprocable in the base 1 by means of a foot-operated lever 14 which engages a depending shank 10 integral with the table. Two torsion springs 18 bias the table towards the base 1. Alternatively, the table is adapted to carry the rivet, eyelet or staple and the upper tool is provided with an anvil or clenching surface. A series of the presses may be mounted on the same base and operated by a common operating lever.
