Abstract
786,270. Sewing machines. REECE CORPORATION. July 29, 1954 [April 16, 1954], No. 22235/54. Class 112 A button clamp for a button sewing machine to hold a button A of a limited range of sizes in position over the material to which it is to be sewn comprises a bottom plate 18 which is substantially the width of the button and arms 20 of resilient material adapted to embrace the button and having inwardly bent upper edges forming flanges adapted to engage the upper surface of the button and hold it against the bottom plate. The latter is formed with a dished seat 19 and a frontal notch 42, the work-engaging under surface being roughened, as at 40..The arms 20 are secured to the bent down end 17 of a shank 16 which extends rearwardly from the bottom plate, and which is slidably engagable with a horizontal slot provided in the presser foot on the machine, an aperture 22 in the rear end of the shank being engagable with a latch member provided on the presser foot. A spacer 30, which may be interposed between the bottom plate and the work, has a roughened under-surface 31, is formed with a frontal notch 41, is provided with a pair of upstanding pins 37 engagable with corresponding holes in the bottom plate, and is formed with a peripheral groove 35 adapted to be engaged by the forked front end 133 of a flat spring member 34 secured to the presser foot.
