Coke from a coke oven falls down shoot 2 on to platform 5, whence it is discharged on to endless belt 7 by rotating discharge wheel 20, the wheel being carried by frame 10 reciprocating along rails 8, 9. As shown, shoot 2 is controlled by adjustable baffle 4 and discharge wheel 20 is adjustable to and from the shoot by screw 12 operated by hand chain 14 so that the depth of the " slice " of coke discharged from the bottom of the shoot may be varied.
