Abstract

824,655. Heating buildings. BROSENIUS, K. H. Jan. 27, 1956 [Jan. 27, 1955], No. 2734/56. Classes 64(1) and 64(2) [Also in Group XXIX] A central heating plant for a building comprises a boiler 4, Fig. 1, a heat consuming apparatus such as a radiator 13, a heat accumulator 1 containing a water magazine, a pump 16 and thermostatic means 18 actuated by room temperature to control the pump. Two three-way valves 14, 15 enable the radiator 13 to be directly connected to the boiler through pipes 22, 24 while a valve 9 may be open or closed according to whether or not surplus heat is available for the accumulator 1. If firing ceases, the valves 14, 15 (see Group XXIX) are automatically changed over by thermally-responsive devices once the main part of the heat in the boiler has been utilized so that the radiator 13 is fed exclusively by the accumulator 1. To avoid corrosion, the boiler may be flushed with hot water from the top of the accumulator 1 before re-firing. For this purpose, the valve 9 is opened, a valve 26 in a pipeline (10) is closed and the valve 15 is turned to connect pipelines 12 and 24 with each other, the pipeline 23 being disconnected. To prevent self-circulation when the pump is stopped the pipe 24 may be connected to the top of the boiler while the pipe 22 is connected to the bottom and fitted with a one-way valve. Alternatively, a valve which can only be opened by pump pressure may be used. The pipe 12 may be connected to the pipe 10 so that the valve 15 and pipe 23 become unnecessary and the valve 14 is used to connect the radiator 13 to both the boiler and the accumulator or to the latter alone. Appropriate dimensioning of the pipes and the presence of dense cold water in the pipe 8 prevents return flow through the boiler when the. radiator is being fed by the accumulator 1. For further simplification, both valves 14, 15 and the pipes 22, 24 may be dispensed with. A small radiator may be connected to the boiler to utilize the heat remaining, in the latter after the accumulator has been charged.
