Class 75(3) An igniter for a gas heater of the kind having a main burner 6 enclosed in a combustion chamber 5 supplied with air through a duct 8 comprises a pilot burner 19 mounted in an ante-chamber movable relative to the pilot burner between a position in which a gap 26 in a wall 25 of the ante-chamber. permits the flame of the pilot burner to extend toward the main burner 6, the ante-chamber then being closed to the exterior of the heater, and a position in which the wall 25 isolates the pilot burner from the main burner 6 and the interior of the heater, the pilot burner then being accessible from the outside of the heater. The wall 25 is secured to a flap 23 hinged to a frame 18 secured to an aperture in the front wall of the combustion chamber 5, the wall 25 and flap 23 forming the ante-chamber. The outward movement of the flap 23 is limited by a lip 27 on the wall 25 engaging a stop plate 29 secured to the frame 18. The flap 23 has a window 24. A rod 33 is pivoted to the flap 23 and engages a notched cam 32 on the spindle 31 of the gas control valve 20 when the flap 23 is open to prevent opening of the valve to a greater extent than is required for supplying gas to the pilot burner. The flap 23 is secured in closed position by a manually operated catch 34. The heater is enclosed in a casing 4 having a hinged flap 9 giving access to the flap 23. The duct 8 supplying the combustion air is connected to a duct extending through the wall of the room in which the heater is mounted and the combustion gases are likewise conveyed by a duct to the outside of the room. The room air passes through the casing 4 and is thereby heated.
