Class 75(1) A gas burner for burnng butane, propane, natural gas or other gases having a low flame velocity as compared with, e.g. coal gas, comprises a head piece a and a separately formed cover piece b supported on the upper side of the head piece, the pieces a and b being shaped to provide between them a chamber tapering horizontally from a vertically extending central orifice f in the head piece to terminate in one or more peripheral orifices k so that the velocity of the gas-air mixture flowing through the peripheral orifice or orifices k can be made greater than the flame velocity. As shown, the main part a secured by screws c to the feed pipe d is shaped to provide a slightly conical or concave upper surface e.
