A pot burner has a cylindrical shell provided with five rows of air holes 1-5 and two flame guide rings 6, 7. The holes of the bottom row 1 are downwardly and inwardly inclined, the holes of rows 2, 3 and 5 are upwardly and inwardly inclined and the holes of row 4 are horizontal. Alternate holes of row 1 may be skewed downwardly in a direction relative to the respective vertical tangent to the pot wall. The upper ring 7 has a larger internal diameter than the lower ring 6. The pot may be surrounded by an annular chamber having an air opening controlled by an air regulator.
