A gas burner particularly for burning propane comprises a removable cover 2 and gas outlets are formed in the upper edge of the cylindrical wall 1 of the burner head as vertical slots 3 arranged in groups, the slots 3 in each group being parallel to one another in plan view, and the central slot of each group passing radially through the wall 1. The cover 2 is supported by projections 4 formed underneath the cover and resting on the top surface of the wall 1, and extending from the inner top edge 7 of the burner wall 1 to a certain distance only across the width of the top surface, being shaped to locate the cover centrally on the burner head. When coal gas is burnt the lengths of the slots 3 may be reduced by covering their lower ends by a metal ring.
