821,454. Thread tension regulators. VEREINIGTE GLANZSTOFF-FABRIKEN A.G. Aug. 20, 1956 [Aug. 20, 1955], No. 25412/56. Classes 120(2) and 142(1) Thread tension regulating means comprises two adjustable grid brakes in each of which rows of bars extend in V formation and which are arranged one after the other in the path of travel of the thread and in staggered formation, and an adjustable spring-loaded thread guide disposed between the two grid brakes and providing a thread reserve the guide changing the position of the travelling thread within the two grid brakes in response to variation in input tension between predetermined limits. As shown thread passes through a guide 7 to a grid type tensioner 1 and thence to a guide 13, on a pivoted lever 10, on to a guide 14 at the other end of lever 10 and through a second grid type tensioner 2 to another fixed guide 8. Should the tension become excessive, the lever 10 pivots against spring force and draws the thread towards the outside of the bars 3, 4 and 5, 6 so that it follows a less sinuous path thus the tension is reduced. The angles between the bars 3, 4 and 5, 6 may be adjustable or the brakes may be displaced relatively to each other and the pivoted thread guide arrangement 10 may be replaced by two separate thread guides which are under spring tension and are displaceable relatively to one another.
