Abstract
819,682. Velocity-modulated tubes. ENGLISH ELECTRIC VALVE CO. Ltd. Oct. 4, 1957 [Jan. 29, 1957], No. 3110/57. Class 39(1). In order to increase the heat dissipation from the collector electrode of a klystron tube, means are provided for deflecting the electron beam over the surface of the collector electrode whereby the area of momentary impact of the beam is continuously changed. The collector electrode may be a hollow cone, the beam entering at the narrow end and being deflected by a rotating electric or magnetic field over the inner conical surface thereof. Alternatively the collector electrode may consist of a number of coaxial tubular parts 7-10, overlapping as shown, and at different positive potentials which increase from electrode 7 to electrode 10. Under the influence of a rotating field, the beam impinges properly on all the electrode parts. A rotating deflecting field is preferred, but the beam may be moved back and forth over an elongated collector electrode.
