Abstract

819,390. Pipe joints. SOC. DES USINES A. TUBES DE LA SARRE. March 11, 1957 [March 9, 1956], No. 7901/57. Class 99(1). [Also in Group XXII] A metal ring 2 welded at 6 on to and at a distance from the end of a tube 1 abuts against the outer edge of a socket 3 when the tube is fully inserted into the socket, and an annular welding groove 5 is provided between the end of the socket and the end of the ring. The groove is positioned substantially mid-way between the end of the tube 1 and the welded end of the ring 2. As shown in Fig. 1, the ring and the socket are bevelled to form a V-shaped groove, and an annular space 7 allows gases given off during the welding process to escape to the inside of the pipes ; a protective film externally of the tube 1 and internally of the socket is forced, during welding, towards the weld 6 and the inner end of the socket to promote fluid-tightness of the joint. To obtain a joint between divergent pipes, the end of the socket and/or the ring may be cut at an angle. In modifications, (a) the end of the socket or ring is flanged, and (b) the ring 2 which is of a diameter equal to an enlarged diameter portion of the socket 3 is provided with a screw-threaded hole to allow filling of the space 10 with heatinsulating material.
