898,640. Welding by fusion. GROSSROHRWERK MANNESMANN-HOESCH G.m.b.H. Jan. 3, 1961 [Feb. 3, 1960], No. 197/61. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XXVIII] In a welded joint between tubes a, b having internal linings a1, b1 e.g., of plastic, sleeves c, d, having reduced necks c1, d1 tightly surrounding and welded to the tubes a, b, are butt welded together and form a chamber f containing heat insulation g, e.g., asbestos, and the actual ends of the tubes a, b are located within one of the necks c1, dl. The abutting tube ends may be coated or a rubber or plastic seal may be interposed. The ends may be outwardly bevelled. The neck adjacent the abutting tube ends may be annularly enlarged.
