Abstract

839,594. Making pipe coupling bellows; welding by fusion. BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd. Feb. 11, 1959 [Feb. 12, 1958], No. 4618/58. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). [Also in Group XXVIII] A bellows unit 2, Fig. 1, for insertion in a pipeline or duct includes an austenitic steel tubular bellows 4 having at least at one end of the bellows a ferritic steel annular end piece 10 provided with an austenitic steel annular weld deposit 20, Fig. 2, to which the bellows end is united by an austenitic weld. An austenitic steel sleeve 25 may be fitted within the bellows end piece 8 and bevelled at 26 so as to form, with the bevelled surface 22 of the weld 20 an annular groove for the deposition of further austenitic weld material 28. The duct sections 36, 46 are provided with diametrically opposite hinged means 50, 52 connecting annular flanges 54, 55, 56, 57 and having coaxial hinge pins 58, 59 the axis of which passes through the middle corrugations of the bellows 4. Diametrically opposed limit stops 88, 92 are provided to prevent excessive rotation of one duct in relation to the other duct about the axis of the hinge pins 58, 59.
