Abstract

818,581. Horizontal flues. EDWARDE, L. F. Oct. 28, 1955 [July 29, 1954], No. 22181/54. Class 25 A horizontal flue roof comprises a plurality of contiguous prefabricated composite beam units spanning the flue 4, Fig. 1, and resting upon the side walls 5. The unit shown in Figs. 1, 4, comprises a reinforced concrete part 1 bonded through the members 8 to a heat-insulating part 7 of reinforced exfoliated vermiculite concrete, whilst the unit of Figs. 2, 4, has its parts, 1a, 7a, connected by nuts and bolts 8c, 8a. Both units have a flanged portion 9 and a recessed portion 10 so that in constructing a roof of either unit gas-tightness is ensured by asbestos joints 11, 12, secured to the units by pinning and giving to the horizontal faces 14, 14a, a wash of refractory material. A roof of either unit is bedded on the walls 5 on a crushed clinker and lime mix 13. The spaces 16, Fig. 2, are filled with asbestos yarn and the unit parts 7, 7a, may be made up of several pieces.
