Abstract

814,838. Protective devices. BROWN, BOVERI & CIE A.G. Oct. 15, 1956, No. 31278/56. Class 38 (4). A lightning arrester of the kind having a series of individual elements connected between a line and earth wherein each element consists of a plurality of spark gaps 4 and voltagedependent resistors 3 each spark gap 4 being spaced by voltage grading resistors 5 is characterized by the fact that points of differing potential on the arrester are connected together by a frequency-dependent impedance 7 which impedance may be capacitive or inductive or may comprise a series oscillatory circuit. The embodiment shown in Fig. 4 has an arrester comprising two columns, the points of differing potential bridged by frequency-dependent impedances 18 being situated in differing columns. In this latter embodiment points of equal potential on the columns are connected together by a metal conductor 17.
