Abstract
1,038,050. Surge diverters. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Dec. 7, 1964 [Dec. 13, 1963], No. 49785/64. Heading H2H. A surge diverter comprises a pair of spaced gap electrodes 16, 18 in compensation with a parallel connected pre-ionizing device comprising an insulating body 22 of ceramic composition, plastic material or mica with a pair of spaced electrodes 30, 32 forming a second air gap 24 with a resistor 34 in series. A grading resistor 48 is connected across the electrodes 16, 18. A number of other configurations for the pre-ionizing device are given in the Specification (Figs. 5-7, not shown).
