Abstract

877,694. Protective devices. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Oct. 12, 1959 [Oct. 20, 1958], No. 33428/58. Class 38 (4). [Also in Group XXXVI] A spark-gap device for a lightning arrester or the like comprises indented disc electrodes 3 spaced apart by a dielectric member 5, having a permittivity variable with frequency, and if desired an electrically conductive member 6. The device may be assembled in series with a similar device in which the spacing member 7 is of constant permittivity. Alternatively, the assembly may comprise more than one of both types of device. The variable permittivity dielectric is of a substance whose permittivity decreases by about 30% over a frequency range of from 50 c.p.s. to 10<SP>6</SP> c.p.s. The thicknesses of the members 5, 7 are such that the interelectrode capacities of the spark-gaps 1, 2 are the same.
