Abstract

801,284. Spark gaps. LICENTIA PATENTVERWALTUNGS-G. m. b. H. March 19,1956 [March 28, 1955], No. 8479/56. Class 39(1). An uncontrolled spark gap comprising two spherical electrodes 1 and 2 is converted into a controlled gap by providing a trigger electrode 6 accommodated within and insulated from a cap-shaped electrode 5 which is mounted on the main gap electrode 2. The electrode 5 is shaped as a hemisphere or a section thereof and has the same or a slightly smaller radius than that of the electrode 2 so that the electrode 5 and trigger electrode 6 have little or no effect on the electronic field in the gap. The invention may be applied to spark gaps in which the electrodes are other than spherical in shape.
