Abstract

890,190. Lightning arresters. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. Feb. 10, 1960 [Feb. 11, 1959], No. 4653/60. Class 38 (4). In a lightning arrester having two or more parallel connected elements A, B each comprising a valve block, e.g. 2a, having spark gaps 1a, 4a mounted at the ends, an impedance 3a is connected across opposite ends of adjacent blocks so that on one element breaking down, the voltage distribution of an adjacent element is disturbed causing this to break down also. The impedances may be ohmic or voltage dependent resistors of conductance not exceeding that of the blocks and where 3 or more elements are used may be connected in chain formation (Fig. 1, not shown) or, as shown in Fig. 2, one of the elements may be arranged to have a lower breakdown voltage than the others. The impedances are connected to points of similar potential in the state of rest of the arrester. Specification 667,846 is referred to.
