Abstract
814,569. Extruding. COMPTOIR INDUSTRIEL D'ETIRAGE ET PROFILAGE DE METAUX. Feb. 28, 1957 [April 25, 1956], No. 6787/57. Class 83 (4). In the hot extrusion of billets, particularly those which are of a metal or alloy normally difficult to extrude, wherein a vitreous lubricant is interposed between the billet and the container and/or the extrusion tools, the billet is provided with a thin coating of an easily extrudible metal which is subsequently removed from the extruded product. The billet may be of stainless steel, titanium alloy, " Nimonic " or " Stellite " (Registered Trade Marks); the coating may be a thin sheet of mild steel welded in position and it may have a thick base at its forward end or a separate disc of the coating metal may be used. Alternatively the coating may be of iron applied by spraying, or a coating may be applied by electro-deposition. The coating is subsequently removed by machining, or by chemical pickling using nitric acid when the billet is of stainless steel. The lubricant is preferably ordinary window glass. The billet may be of round, square or rectangular cross-section for use in a container bore of the same section. Specific examples are given. Specifications 607,285 and 732,081 are referred to.
