Abstract
814,100. Coating webs. INDUSTRIAL INSULATIONS Ltd. May 24, 1957 [May 26, 1956], No. 16333/56. Addition to 681,278. Class 140. A machine for coating travelling webs with liquid or plastic compositions comprises means for advancing the web through the machine so that the web has a run in which one side is uppermost followed after a change of direction by a further run in which the other side is uppermost, at least two spreading units being provided arranged for applying liquid or plastic material to the web on different runs, at least one of these spreading units being a spreading unit as claimed in the parent Specification. The web may be dried after each application of liquid or plastic material. As shown, the web 13 passes from a supply reel 5 over an idler roll 7 to a coating unit 2, comprising an applicator roll 38 running in a trough and doctor knives arranged as described in the parent Specification. The web then passes over a steam radiator 15 around a driven roller 8 to a similar coating unit 3 where its other side is coated, again over a steam radiator 16 and thence round a driven roller 9 to another coating unit 4. From here the web passes beneath a drying tunnel 21, connected to an air heater and fan 19 and having a vent 48, for vapour recovery, and thence around a driven roller 10 and an idler roller 12 to a take-up roller 6. The steam radiators 15, 16 and 17 are fed by a common supply pipe 46.
