Abstract

1410693 Coating apparatus AGFAGEVAERT AG 21 Sept 1973 [23 Sept 1972] 44375/73 Heading B2L [Also in Divisions D1 and F4] Sheets of. paper or film are coated with a viscous liquid by a coating roller 5 and coater units 8 and .the. coating dried by an air jet dryer 15 the physical characteristics of the air being adjustable. A sheet 1 bonded at its ends to form a continuous loop, travels over a drum 2 guide rollers and flanged roller 6 3, 4 onto the coating roller 5 beneath which is a turntable 7 on which coater units 8 are mounted for horizontally positioning thereof. A coating solution is dispersed by injection sprays 9 driven through spindle gear 10. For positioning the coater units 8 stops 11 thereof Fig 2 (not shown) contact stop rings 12 on each end of the roller 5. After coating the sheet passes into the dryer 15 and air blown thereto through nozzles 16. An additional infra red heater 17 may be used. The air passed to the dryer is successively passed by a fan 18 through a filter 19, cooler 20, dessicator 21, cooler 22, filter 23, electric heater 24 steam injection chamber 25 and mixing chamber 26. The moisture content and temperature of the drying air are varied by altering the output of the steam injection chamber 25 and electric heater 24. The quantity of air entering the dryer is adjusted by flaps 27. The apparatus is stated to be a test apparatus used for simulating optimum coating conditions of production.
