Abstract

A dry rosin size is made by mixing rosin with about 0,5-5 per cent. by weight, calculated on the weight of the rosin, of a liquid hydrocarbon such as petroleum or kerosene and about 15-30 per cent. by weight of sodium aluminate. The mixture may be subsequently fritted at 80 DEG C., or kneaded with a small quanitity of water and thereafter dried; or the mixing may take place at a temperature not exceeding 95C., or in the presence of enough water than a dispersion is formed and the dispersion thus obtained is then dried. A preferred size consists of a mixture of 2 per cent. petroleum and 25 per cent sodium aluminate, calculated on the weight of the rosin.
