Abstract

Class 75(4) [Also in Group X] A wall or ceiling lighting fitting comprises a mounting structure projecting from the wall or ceiling and carrying a lighting element- and reflector, light diffusing means including a front panel of plastic material having a peripheral flange and means for securing the diffusing means detachably to the mounting structure so that the peripheral flange engages with the front part of this. The light diffusing means may include a second panel forming a closed diffusing cell with the front panel and engaging the front end of the reflector to form a dust proof enclosure for the lighting element. In the form shown comprising a duplicate assembly, the mounting structure A, Fig. 1, consists of channels 10 connected by bracing members 11 which may also serve as wiring channels, and members 12 extending downwards from the channels 10 and united at their lower ends by inverted T-bars. The structure may be secured to the ceiling joists 15 or suspended therefrom by strips 16. The lighting elements 33 and reflectors 30 are carried by members 28 supported by bars 18 which close the undersides of the bracing members 11. The light diffusing means C consists of a front panel 37 and a rear panel having dished parts 36 which register with the openings of the reflectors 30 and is held in place by a rod 23 having at the lower end a finger piece 52 and at the upper end a cross piece 54 which passes through a slot in the member 18 and when turned through a right angle holds the diffusing means in contact with the reflectors 30. A chain 26 sliding on rod 23 is anchored to the member 18 to limit the downward movement of the diffusing means C. In a modified form, the mounting structure comprises a grid of intersecting inverted T- bars suspended from the rafters and carrying an inverted pan 69, Fig. 11, supporting reflectors 68 and lamps 84, the reflectors being closed on the underside by light diffusing covers 72. A flanged front panel 91 is united to the covers 72 by curved panels 73 and is supported from the mounting member by fasteners H. In a further modification, the mounting structure is in the form of a shallow pan 106, Fig. 20, to which are secured reflectors 108 carrying lamps 109. The pan is closed on the underside by a diffusing cell consisting of a first panel 107, the edges of which engage those of the pan 106, and rear panels 122, 123. The diffusing cell is secured to the pan 106 by fasteners L consisting of a hairpinlike piece of spring steel having a lanceolate end which is secured to the cell by one leg and inserted in holes in the rim of the reflectors, being normally supported on the reflector by a shoulder on this leg. The lanceolate head is capable of supporting the panel in a partly withdrawn position.
