679,922. Supporting lighting fittings. SMITH, A. G., and BENJAMIN ELECTRIC, Ltd. Aug. 3, 1950 [Aug. 10, 1949], No. 20819/49. Class 75(iii) A lighting fitting comprises a member 17 of cruciform cross section secured to a reflector 10, a part 17d of the member being adapted to locate the reflector in an opening in a support such as a ceiling and another part 17b being adapted to support the reflector. The member is made by folding flat metal strip and in the embodiment shown it is mitred and welded to form a rectangular frame corresponding to the shape of the reflector. The outer horizontal part 17a rests on structural members 15, 16 of the ceiling and the vertical upward part 17c locates the reflector in the frame. The reflector and a glass 13 covering the mouth thereof are secured to the frame by transverse bolts 19 which overlie end flanges on the reflector and pass through holes in the parts 17c; alternatively at each end of the reflector a transverse plate hinged to the frame at one side is clamped downwardly to overlie the corresponding flange on the reflector. A cross piece 17e on the frame conceals a join of the glass 13. Chains for supporting the fitting below the ceiling during servicing are attached to eyebolts 21 on a housing 11 for control gear on top of the reflector.
