Abstract
198,924. Edman, G. A. July 8,1922. Open fire-places; canopies; ash-pans. - The frame of an open fire-place, including the canopy, is made by stamping, bending, or pressing sheet metal. The construction shown comprises separate sheet-metal top and side members 1, 2, 3 flanged as shown at their outer edges for strengthening purposes, and bolted together at the corners. The side members are also formed with flanges 7 for the greater part of their height, above which are off-set portions 8 forming seatings for the edges 25 of the canopy 22. The latter is formed in two pieces of sheet metal, one of which forms the front 23 and side wings 26 and the other comprises a plate 32 held in grooves 25 at the edges of the front 23, the lower portion 31 of this plate being at right-angles to the upper part and forming a draught-regulator. The canopy is hingedly mounted by means of lugs 28 passing through slots 14 in a lower flange 12 on the top frame member 1, and is supported by means of projections 9 on the side members which slidably engage the lower edges 23 of the wings 26. A one-piece sheet metal tidy 34 is preferably provided.
