813,049. Poultry feeding devices. EDLIN, M. F., and WALDER & MACCREADIE Ltd. Dec. 14, 1956 [Sept. 14, 1955], No. 26308/55. Class 5(2). A poultry feeder comprises a feeding trough 1, a perch 6, a hopper 7, resilient means for supporting the trough from below to permit lengthwise vibration of the trough, and poweractuated means to effect end-wise movement of the trough. A balanced container 17 swings under a predetermined weight of food to actuate a switch and so disconnect the power-actuated means until, when sufficient food has been taken from the container, the latter swings back to re-connect the power-actuated means. The trough 1 is supported by two or more springy blades 2 connected to frame members 3 and members 4 having adjustable legs 5. The hopper 7 is fitted with a slide 8. A plunger block 9 in the trough opens and closes a discharge opening in the base of the hopper as the trough vibrates. This vibration is by a rod 10, pivotally connected to the trough at 11 and at its opposite end pivoted to a floating link 13 freely mounted on the axis of a disc 15, the latter being driven by an electric motor (not shown) and carrying a pin 16. The pin 16 coacts with the link 13, and, as it revolves, draws the rod 10 away from the trough to a point where the resilient blades 2 take control, so drawing the link 13 ahead of the pin until rod and link are again horizontal, when the pin renews contact. The container 17 may be fitted with removable weights 18 so that it can be made to operate under different quantities of food.
