750,547. Feeding-devices. S.A.S.I.B.-SOC. PER AZIONI SCIPIONE INNOCENTIBOLOGNA. April 14, 1954 [April 24, 1953], No. 11076/54. Class 78 (1). An automatic feeding device for loose tobacco leaves comprises a substantially vertical hopper 1 having a swinging wall 3 and in which the swinging of said wall is controlled by a device 60 which is responsive to the resistance opposed by said material to compression, whereby the amount of swinging of the wall is automatically adjusted to the resistance opposed by said material to compression. As shown, wall 3 is caused to oscillate by the rotating cam 58 through follower 71, pivoted arm 57, prop 60 pivoted at 161 to lever 56 secured on shaft 103 of said wall. The whole system oscillates together during normal operation. If, however, wall 3 meets a greater resistance of leaves then its swing stops short, with the result that prop 60 in turn stops short and pivots downwards to touch arm 57 at a lower point. The system then continues to swing at smaller amplitude till the resistance of leaves diminishes, whereupon the wall and system oscillates once again with its original amplitude. The leaves thus fed are discharged by rollers 4, 6, 7.
