Abstract

930,873. Combining card slivers. T.M.M. (RESEARCH) Ltd. April 30, 1962 [May 2, 1961], No. 15923/61. Classes 120 (1) and 120 (3). [Also in Group XXXV] Variations in the thickness of a sliver 101 of textile fibrous material comprising the combined outputs of two or more carding machines A ... D are corrected by adjusting the feed to one of the machines. The thickness is measured by tongued and grooved rollers 14, 15, one of which is mounted on a pivoted arm whose movement either varies the output of a differential transformer or operates contacts. In either case a reversible servomotor is driven in the appropriate direction when the thickness departs from a preset standard, the motor either adjusting a variable gear, e.g. cone pulleys, in the feed roller drive of one machine A (Fig. 4, not shown) or varying the opening between plates in a feed hopper (Fig. 5, not shown). Correction is made in accordance with integrated error, since the servomotor is run for the whole time that the error persists. If the deviation is excessive the servomotor is witched off and a signal may be given. Specification 886,396 is referred to.
