Abstract
661,224. Automatic feed weighers. SMITH, A. R. Feb. 21, 1950 [March 4,1949; Dec. 2, 1949, Nos. 5964/49 and 30962/49. Class 143. An automatic feed weigher has separate main and dribble feed shoots fed from a hopper by a vibratory shoot and each has a pivoted gate at its lower end. The weigh hopper a, Fig. 1, is fed from a hopper d via a vibrating shoot e, a conveyer j and a pair of side by side compartments in a feeding hopper k, the shoot e having a partition m which effects a bulk feed to one compartment and a fine feed to the other. On the charge attaining a predetermined weight a solenoid w is de-energized and allows spring v and levers u, t to move an arm s about a pivot c so engaging 'a roller r with a cam q on the main feed gate p and effecting the closing of that gate and thus the dribble feed; a similar arrangement (not shown) is associated with the dribble feed compartment and effects final cut-off. In a modification, Fig. 3, the conveyer j is dispensed with, the partition m is replaced by an inverted V portion 2 at the tip of the shoot e and, through a cam 6, a sector 8 and an arm 4, the gate p of the dribble feed compartment is oscillated during the dribble feed so producing a controlled flow of articles, e.g. one at a time.
