633,058. Automatic feed weighers. SIMON, W. G., and SIMON, F. R. Sept. 14, 1945, No. 23700. [Class 143] A n automatic feed weigher has a gravity main feed from the hopper to the pan, a supplementary electrically vibrated dribble feed conveyer for feeding from the hopper to the pan. and automatic means for inter. rupting said feeds upon predetermined successive descents o f the pan, the hopper comprising main feed and dribble feed compartments such t h a t the former is filled by overflow from the latter. Beet or other root crop is fed to a hopper 5 having a base 5c dividing it into a main feed compartment 5a and a dribble feed compartment 5b which fills first. The beam 1, comprising spaced arms and a sliding weight 9, operates contacts a, b and thereby a thruster 13 which opens a main cut-off valve 12 when the beam rises after a weighing, and shuts it when the beam again falls to a predetermined level. Simultaneously with the shutting, a dribble feed conveyor 7, constructed as in Specification 565,729 with a tray 14 reciprocating 2000-3000 times per minute with an amplitude of 1/32nd inch, is set working through contacts b, c. After a further predetermined fall of the beam, contacts d, e open to stop the conveyor and open a discharge gate 19 against the weight 21 through a link 22 connected to a quadrant 23 pivoted at 24. A notched lever 26 engages the quadrant to hold the gate 19 closed. A rod connecting the spaced arms of the beam 1 rocks a bell crank to move the spring arm contact b between fixed contacts a and c. A lever 39 carries a truck 39a resting on a bracket of the weigh pan 4 so that descent of the latter deflects a lever to rock shaft 37 and separate contacts d, e while rising of the empty pan resets the contacts. This resetting cannot be effective until closure of the gate 19 when quadrant 23 has rotated to the latched position and has retracted a bolt 47 from beneath the lever 43 on shaft 37. The rear arm 43<SP>1</SP> of lever 43 may be depressed as pan 4 descends, lever 39 then releasing the latch 26 of the quadrant.
