Abstract

476,389. Automatic-feed weighers. SIMON, W. G., and SIMON, F. R. June 8, 1936, No. 15941. [Class 143] Relates to an automatic weighing- machine of the type comprising a supply hopper, a weigh pan, a feed gate, a spring for opening the feed gate, means whereby upward movement of the weigh pan stresses the spring preparatory to opening the gate and means for releasing the gate for opening movement by the spring. According to the invention a spring other than a compression spring (preferably a tension spring) is used for moving the feed gate thereby obviating disadvantages due to clogging of the spring. As described in Specification 476,388, the weigh pan 13 in rising after discharging its contents rotates a three-armed lever 20a, 20b, 20c. The arm 20b is connected by a tension spring 22 to the feed gate 11, and the tension spring is consequently extended to bias the gate towards the open position, and subsequently to open the feed gate when a toggle joint 39, 40 is broken by the closure of the discharge valve of the scale pan. As the scale pan descends, followed by the threearmed lever, the tension of the spring is relaxed sufficiently to allow the feed gate to descend by gravity to the dribble feed position, final cut-off of the feed being subsequently effected as described in the above-mentioned Specification.
