Abstract

391,943. Feeding - devices for granular &c. material. SOUTHALL & SMITH, Ltd., SOUTHALL, C., and GWILT, C., Villa Street Works, Hockley, Birmingham. Feb. 23, 1932, No. 5355, [Class 59.] A feeding-mechanism for delivering gramophone needles, nails, tacks, sugar lumps, or other small articles to an automatic weighing- machine comprises an inclined fixed delivery tube a, Fig. 1, a receptacle formed by an inclined fixed plate b at the upper end of the tube, a correspondingly inclined rotary member d, a flange c on the rotary member (or a fixed flange surrounding the rotary member), and recesses or projections h in association with the rotary member for carrying articles from a mass at the lower part of the receptacle to the upper part where they can fall into a channel i at the upper end of the tube. The gramophone needles &c. in a hopper g are transferred by a rotating arm h to the rotating receptacle and after passing through the tube a fall into the weigh pan l. A pivoted feed gate m electrically or otherwise controlled by the weighbeam closes when the required weight of needles has passed into the weigh pan. In a modified arrangement, Fig. 4, the parts q, b are stationary and the intermediate part d rotates. The part d carries V-shaped projections p which pick up the needles and deliver them down the channel i and tube a.
