Abstract

668,202. Automatic feed weighers. VALLEY PRODUCTS (LYE), Ltd., and TEARNE, W. Aug. 15, 1950 [Aug. 16, 1949], No. 21277/49. Class 143. In an automatic feed weigher of the kind in which material is fed to a weight pan 5 down a vibrating trough 2, cut off is effected by immobilising the vibrator 1 and, simultaneously, closing the end of the trough with a pivoted gate 18. This gate is pivoted to a rigid bracket at 19 and, during feeding is held away from the trough, against the aciton of a spring 21, by an electromagnet 20 which is energised in series with the vibrator 1 when an abutment 12 is in contact with an arm 13 of a two-way switch 17. On the attainment of a predetermined weight of material in the pan 5, the beam 6 tilts and abutment 12 is disengaged from arm 13 so causing switch 17 to effect cut off and simultaneously, so energise a dumping solenoid 33. When energised this solenoid lifts a member 31 so tripping a latch 29 and allowing the flap 22 to open and deposit the charge in a shoot 34 which leads to a packing machine (not shown). After dumping, the flap 22 is automatically closed by a counterweight 24. A switch 27 in series with the vibrator 1 and magnet 20, and operated by the flap 22, is opened during dumping and so delays the restarting of the feed by switch 17, which is re-operated as soon as dumping commences until after the flap 22 has been closed. The beam 6 which has stops 9, 10 and a dashpot 11 to control its movements, has a counterbalance weight supporting cradle 8 and adjustable weights 43, 44 which compensate for the weight of material suspended at cut off. A normally closed manually operated switch is connected in series with the solenoid 33 and allows the discharge of the weigher to be non-automatically controlled by a packer. In a modification (not shown) a second two way switch is connected in series with the switch 17 and serves to connect a normally short circuited resistor in series with the vibrator so effecting a dribble feed from the trough.
