812,600. Oscillating motors. TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET L. M. ERICSSON. April 12, 1957 [April 12, 1956], No. 12064/57. Class 35. [Also in Group XXXVIII] An electromagnetically-operated oscillating armature device for use in bells and telephone receivers comprises a magnetic core 1 formed by a magnetically conductive closed loop 12, 13, 15, 16, 14 having a re-entrant portion 17 ... 19 forming a cavity accommodating a permanent magnet 5 which has one pole directed inwardly towards the bottom 18 of the portion and the other pole directed outwardly towards the centre of an armature 4 pivoted at such centre on a spindle 41; two air gaps 2, 3 exist between the ends of the armature 4 and the core 1 at locations 15, 16 outside the re-entrant portion and the portion 12 of the core carries an energizing winding 21 connectable to an A.C. source whereby in operation the gaps 2, 3 carry both the permanent magnet unidirectional flux and the energizing winding alternating flux as they pass between the core and armature, to cause the armature to oscillate about its pivoting spindle. As shown, Fig. 1, the core 1 is M-shaped and the re-entrant portion sloping arms 17, 19 are so dimensioned or so apertured that they are saturated by the permanent magnet flux. The armature ends have pole studs 42 to prevent sticking. In the bell construction of Fig. 2 a U-shaped clamp 7 holds via a spring 72 the magnet 5 against the bottom 18 and mounts the armature 4 to which is screwed a clapper bar 42.
