811,794. Knitting. MORLEY Ltd., I. & R., GILBERT, W., READER, HAND & CO. Ltd., and READER, R. A. July 10, 1957 [April 28, 1956], No. 13082/56. Class 74 (2). To enable the toe of a circularly knitted seamless sock to conform to the shape of the foot one or other of the narrowing pickers is rendered inoperative so that narrowing and widening to form the toe pouch on the usual group of needles only occurs at one end of the group. The needles at the other end are operative for the whole of the formation of the toe and this results in an opening B being formed along the inside edge of the sock which is subsequently linked to close the side of the toe. The inside edge of the toe therefore extends in line with the edge of the foot whilst the. outer edge is shaped in the normal way. The pickers of a circular machine are operated from the pattern drum of the machine and may be rendered inoperative as desired in the production of successive socks in order to produce socks for a right or left foot.
