Abstract
811,191. Slime prevention. OSAKEYHTIO KESKUSLABORATORIO CENTRALLABORATORIUM A.B. Jan. 21, 1957 [Jan. 20, 1956],No. 2177/57. Class 96. Formation of slime, during the manufacture of chemical or mechanical pulp and paper, is prevented by adding intermittently to the circulating water a compound which, in aqueous solution, is completely or partially dissociated into bisulphite ions. The pH value of the circulating water may be maintained between 4 and 6 by adding sulphuric or formic acid, aluminium sulphate, sodium hydroxide, soda or lime. Sulphurous acid and sodium bisulphite are suitable compounds for use with neutral or alkaline circulating water; sodium sulphite is suitable for acidic water. The compound may be used at a concentration corresponding to 200 or 450 m.g. of sodium bisulphite per litre of circulating water, addition being made over a period of 30 or 15 minutes, respectively, at intervals of one day.
